Origins and Involvement

What inspired you to become a member and what were your early experiences like?

I always used to play with guns and liked hunting and fishing. I was going to join the club when I was working, and the club was at Blacktown. But I was too busy at the time and couldn’t join. I joined the Sydney Pistol Club in 1955, and I used to shoot at range, then I got called up to National Service in the Army. Joined SSAA in 1957.

I used to load my own bullets getting the items from a store in Bankstown. I bought the powder and the Simplex press. I never shot for trophies, just to enjoy it. I was 16 years old when I bought Browning .22 pump action from a hairdresser in Drummoyne.
