Oh for a Chad Oh Report – November 4

Sunday’s shoot marked a return to the single comp format. And what a day it was. With 27 members putting lots of holes in a variety of targets.

We have a great bunch of shooters in our club, with a mix of new members who are enthusiastically pursuing their learnings and our experienced members who regularly attend. Sunday’s attendance reflected this mix perfectly and made for a great atmosphere.

It may come as a surprise, but these shoots don’t organise or run themselves. Its even more difficult now range hire time is limited. A lot has to happen in a short amount of time. A big thanks to Dashing D, WileyFox, Possum, Hurricane and SlyDog for their efforts in running the session. Psmudge has assembled this A-Team so he can just swan around like a social butterfly chitter-chatting with anyone who will listen, which is what he does best. (not true 🙁 )

Given this is a competitive match and bragging rights are at stake, I’m watching with interest a few competitive family battles. There’s the ongoing feud between Wiley Fox and Mrs Fox. If Wiley Fox knows what’s good for him, he may want to ease up on those high scores. Slick and Slick Senior are in the midst of a fierce contest.

Currently Slick is showing the ol’man who’s boss. Or is the ol’man letting him win, like most of us fathers do (or say we do!). And the newest rivalry between Tranquil Moon and Father Moon is heating up nicely. Their string scores were evenly matched except for the 3rd String where the pressure got to Father Moon. I’m sure he was reminded of that afterwards at home.

So, Service, Precision and 3 Ring Smudge targets at different distances challenged us all.

Rimfire 1st was Wiley Fox and Centrefire 1st was J 551. Second was SlyDog and because he only put 5 rounds in target A, forgetting it should have been 10. Otherwise, he was on fire today with excellent shooting.

If you want to see what great shooting looks like, this is SlyDog’s Service target.

Stay straight and tight and remember ….. your score is more important than family.

The Chad Oh.

Sighting in and Pistol cleaning

It was the first time we introduced Sighting in time , before a shoot. Linda from the Condell Park Range was very accommodating , and even though herding cats is a challenge , we finally dragged Glenn in to show a small group of keen members to see how it’s done

Thanks Glenn

By that stage Ray had started pulling apart a pistol watched by a very attentive audience. So when we started the shoot , we finally had pistols that didn’t jam , that were cleaned and sighted in.

great work Ray … it was very rewarding for me to observe the obvious camraderie and the interest and rapt attention.

The bad news was the newer members were achieving high scores , luckily Daniel S didn’t show up 🙂

The committee have agreed that this type of activity should be held on regular basis , essentially setting up a cleaning and maintenance program for members.

In fact we have taken steps to organise some speakers with expertise to come and share their knowledge to members

thanks again to all who participated this was a most rewarding day 🙂
