Next  shoot - we are at St Marys on Sunday - 10:00 am – 12:30 pm

Captain Obvious Report – Sunday May 19

This Sunday’s shoot was a bit more back to basics. However, the twist was a timed event. So, no backroom toys this week but it’s something we haven’t done in along time. Last event with the rotating targets was timing but a little hectic. This event allowed shooters to race the clock or take as long as they wanted.

A timed event tests the skills in a different way. You can be accurate and slow, or fast and….well a little less accurate. Theres some magic formula to find the right balance. Or you can just be both fast and accurate. But that’s easier said than done.

We had 15 shooters turn up and it’s so good to see everybody pitching in to help. The President, who by far and away, does more than anybody and is just amazing, but he can only do so much. Being a timed event, we needed timers. Everybody jumped in to do their turn. As we moved thru the strings a rhythm of scoring and patching commenced, which resulted in an efficient process. I might even say it was, “poetry in motion”.  It’s quite evident, what a great club we have.

What has to be said, is the quality of shooters we have are first class. Specifically with firearms handling and safety. All shooters handled their firearms superbly and shot well. We had a number of new shooters, showing some quality skills, resulting in high scores. By the way…. these new shooters must have missed one of the lessons in the training…..new shooters are not meant to be outscoring the more experienced members. So to all the newbies, make sure you throw the odd round into a 3 or 4…. ease up on the 10’s and 9’s please.

This week’s results are ranking by Hit Rate. Total Score divided by total time. Take a look at the results by string and it’s interesting to see how the hit rate treads that line of score vs time.

Results Rimfire: David D or shall we call him Mr Quick…. which no male ever wants to be called but….…1st place with 5.4. David’s total time was the fastest out of all shooters including centrefire and 35 seconds faster than the next rimfire time. Outstanding result but I’m betting it was because he used Jim’s gun. 2nd place Serge S with 4.4. But in 3rd place with the best result of the day was Paulette D with 4.3 because she beat Jim D. Paulette not only outscored Jim but was faster too. Woooohooo Paulette.

Centrefire: Fred R with 4.4 and the legendary Brent H with 3.7 and who was pretending he was a 70’s super cop with his 357 revolver.

In summary, you guessed it….. we had a ripping great Sunday morning putting holes in paper. If you’ve ever been told your too quick, well then Sunday morning’s at the range is ok to finish first! Just remember, you still gotta hit the target!

Stay straight and tight…and quick.
