the return of the Shadow

Shadow Report – Sunday April  21

Fun was at an all-time high today, even though the planned shooting of fish in a barrel did not go ahead as planned. Some bunch of upstart IPSC so called professionals had rudely booked our regular range and apparently Range C has no water access to fill our fish barrels. Well, it’s not really sport if the fish have no water to swim in, is it.

Upon discovering this unplanned predicament, our old and new Club Captain’s put their heads together. Lucky they are agile, could pivot and leaned in to devise a new course of fire (for those who don’t understand this last sentence, please consult your nearest corporate workplace).

Todays shoot was a mix of “plenty of time” and “rapid time” strings over 10 and 20 metres. I think everybody enjoyed the challenge of getting off two mags in under 20 seconds. Especially when it included reloading.

Two things stood out today. One, was the safe handling and muzzle awareness of keeping the firearm pointed down range whilst reloading under time, from all our members. It was pleasing to see the high degree of discipline exhibited by all shooters. Second was the skill level and talent of Parham H who was shooting his 357 revolver, without a quick loader. It was quite a sight to behold how fast and safely he reloaded.

I won’t spell out all the numbers, just a few hi-lights. Paulette D placing second and kicking Jim D’s backside who placed 3rd. In Centrefire David D who is one of our newer members and not too far into 9mm shooting, rocked second place. He left a few of our regular centrefire “peacocks” in his dust.

I hope everybody enjoyed themselves today and most importantly, safely enjoyed themselves. Over the next few weeks, its going to get funner and funner with many more interesting shoots planned. Spoiler alert, next week is a cowboy* theme and we are shooting while sitting on a rocking horse.

* cowboy is a generic term for those who don’t identify as a bovine.

See you next week. If you turn up.

Stay straight and tight!
