More than a shadow of his former self

Shadow Report – Sunday February 25

Sunday’s shoot was the best shoot so far in 2024. Not because I can’t think of any other way to start the report; it was because we had the best Range Officer, and the best President in the club’s history on duty, Brent. And of all the past / present Club Presidents, he is by far my favourite. Also supervising was Geoff who is my second favourite Range Officer. He goes about his duties with a calm and confident approach. Ray was there too!

The current President once again, took several new shooters under his educational wing, nurturing their newfound enthusiasm and imparting his wisdom of all things shooting. I don’t know what he is teaching them, but judging by their results, the more experienced members are going to have a reality check. Maybe I might even book in a lesson with him.

It was an afternoon session and we had 14 shooters in attendance, which is a few up on normal. I can only surmise our members like a sleep in on Sunday mornings.

This shoot was using two targets at 10 and 15 metres.

In RimFire, new shooter Ramesh K set a new precedence by taking out first place in his first shoot. He smashed out an excellent score, getting the gold by 1 point. This presently, is a precedence in the presence of the President. Jim D was second and fuming. Not because of coming second, but because I accused him of not being able to add up his score card. Paul D third. Only 4 points separating the top 3. It was good scores all round with other new members David D and Richard C all north of 400 points.

In CentreFire, Fred R turned up. I don’t mean attended, he turned up a top result. First by a country mile of 22 points. Brent second and never happy with second. We know this because he told everyone. Glenn L had a shocker, turns out he is human after all. He shot so bad that even Craig W beat him.

In other news, we are now tracking your ongoing yearly total. Each week the top 10 shooters earn points by Rimfire and Centrefire. Eg first place = 10 points, second = 9 and 8, 7, 6 down to tenth = 1 point. These will be tallied up using a complex algorithm, to earn the coveted club shooter of the year.  Imagine the fame, glory, sponsorship and advertising endorsements one might obtain by taking out this prize.

Forget your domestic duties, the lawns can wait, the kids won’t miss you and the wife is glad you’re out of the house. If your single or divorced than you aint got no excuse. Get yourself to the range on Sunday!

I look forward to seeing ya’s all there on a Sunday.

Stay straight and tight!
